Course Description:

The Geometry course is a comprehensive look at the study of geometric concepts including the basic elements of geometry, proofs, parallel and perpendicular lines, the coordinate plane, triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, circles, trigonometry, congruence and similarity, surface area, volume and transformations.

Course Objectives and Student Learning Outcomes:

Students who successfully complete the course will be able to:

  1. Identify and apply the properties of rays and angles.
  2. Identify and apply the properties of parallel and perpendicular lines.
  3. Write conditional statements.
  4. Write proofs.
  5. Write and graph linear functions.

  7. Identify and apply the properties of quadrilaterals.
  8. Identify and apply the properties of polygons.
  9. Identify and apply the properties of circles.
  10. Prove figures are congruent.
  11. Prove figures are similar.
  12. Apply transformations to various figures.

Class Policies

  • Assignments
    • Assignments will be provided daily to practice and enhance skills taught after each lesson. Should an assignment not be completed in class, it is to be done outside of class and ready to grade the following day.
    • As you walk in class, the answers to the previous day’s assignment will be on the projector. Check your own work, only marking the ones that are INCORRECT. You will have about 5 minutes to grade and correct your work. You may annotate or make notes that you believe will assist you in solving these problems down the road.
    • Once graded, you will turn it into your corresponding class period tray.
  • Quizzes
    • Quizzes will be sporadic throughout every lesson learned. These problems will be very similar to the assignments we’ve worked on together in class. You will always be made aware of quizzes before they are assigned.
    • On quiz days, you will be provided the opportunity to use your graded assignments or notes as resources to enhance retrieval skills.
  • Test Corrections & Retakes:
    • If you make a 50 or above on a test, you are able to participate in test corrections for half-credit returned. (This is optional)
    • When participating in corrections, you must re-work the problem to completion and explain your error in complete sentences. Explanations such as; IDK, I skipped it, guessed, read it wrong, etc. along with no work shown will receive no credit.
    • Unless otherwise stated, corrections are due 1 Week after the test is returned. The tests are never allowed to leave my room and class time is not guaranteed. This means you must come in before school to work on corrections.
    • If you make below a 50, you are able to take a retest for a maximum grade of a 70. This must be done OUTSIDE OF CLASS within 1 Week of the test being returned.
  • No food. No drinks (except bottled water).
  • NO Cellphones
  • Tutorials
    • I will be available every morning for tutorials at 7:45. If you have any questions over homework, you can also email me.
    • My conference is 7th block. If you let me know in advance, I am sometimes available for extra help during this time.
  • Bathroom
    • You will be given a punch card to use for a 9 week period. This offers 10 emergency restroom breaks should they be needed. Once your pass has been completely used, you must wait until the next 9 week period to receive a new one. You will not be allowed to leave the classroom without utilizing your punch card.
  • Stay seated until the bell rings. No one leaves until this happens.
    • DO NOT pack up early or you will be the last one to leave.
